Things you should know about lupus


What causes lupus?

Although the exact reasons of lupus are still a matter of anonymity, experts believe that genetic, environmental and hormonal factors combine together and cause the condition. Fortunately, this disease is not contagious nor it is sexually transmitted. There are some external factors that trigger the appearance of the inflammation such as: over exposure for ultraviolet rays or taking certain drugs. Infection, trauma, stress, surgeries, Allergic Reaction Rash on Face  and hormones may also trigger lupus.

Who is most likely to get infected?

Although both sexes are prone to get infected, it’s females who are more vulnerable to get this inflammation. This disease happens at any age, especially between the ages of 15 and 44 years. Medically speaking, it’s said that females’ sexual hormones ‘Estrogen’ affect the immune system in a way that makes females more vulnerable.

What is the outlook for people with lupus?

So far, there is no cure for lupus rash that can fight it forever. Yet, every year, scientists come up with promising findings every year, and there is growing optimism that experts in this field will finally come up with medicines that are less toxic.

Fortunately, developed methods of detecting, diagnosing, treating and monitoring lupus have enabled patients and doctors to more effectively manage and live with this chronic disease. 23 years ago, only 40% of people with lupus rash were expected to live. Nowadays, people with rash can look forward to a normal life.

Can a bacterial infection also cause a rash?

Answer:
Rashes in children can be quite common and can be due to many different causes. Often the rash is due to a viral infection and is to be expected. While we immunize children against many common viral illnesses that cause rashes, such as measles, mumps, rubella and chicken pox, there are many other infections, both viral and bacterial that can cause a rash.
